Tesfaye Assefa

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Tesfaye Assefa on September 12, 2026.

Tesfaye was born on July 20, 1955 (Ethiopian Calendar date July 13, 1947) in Aleta Wondo, Sidamo, Ethiopia; to Gashe Asefa Woldegabriel and Wezero Zenebech Desalegn. One of ten siblings, he settled in Washington D.C. in the early 1980s. Tesfaye was a longtime D.C. homeowner and a loving and devoted father to his only son, Dagemawe. He was a loving brother to his 9 siblings, and a fun and caring uncle and friend. He leaves behind many friends and relatives in the U.S. and abroad.

We will deeply miss Tesfaye and his strength, sense of humor, and gentle heart.

Tesfaye’s church service and funeral will be on Thursday, 9/24/26. The church service will be held from 10:00-11:30 AM at Debre Selam Kidist Mariam EOTC 1350 Buchanan Street, Washington D.C. 20011. The burial site will be held at Glenwood Cemetery, 2219 Lincoln Rd NE Washington, DC 20002
United States, starting from 12:30 PM.
