Reston, Virginia
Jerrold “Jerry” Dixon Allen, age 71, went to be with the Lord on September 7, 2026. He grew up with his family in Falls Church and, most recently, lived in Reston with his beloved wife, Diane, with whom he shared 34 years of marriage. Sadly, Diane preceded him in death just one month earlier.
Jerry was a truly jolly and joyful soul who spread love, laughter, and happiness wherever he went. He was a proud Mason and deeply valued his Christian faith, which was an important and meaningful part of his life.
Jerry had a great love for music, especially the guitar, but his musical talents extended far beyond that. He also played the tuba and trumpet and was such a gifted musician that he had the honor of becoming a member of the Redskins Band, where he played for several years.
Above all, Jerry loved people. He cherished his family, friends, and neighbors and was always willing to bring a smile to someone’s face. He was blessed to share 34 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Diane McSweeney Allen. Together, they shared a life filled with love, family, friendship, and countless cherished memories.
Jerry had a wonderfully playful spirit. At one time, he would dress as a clown, ride his unicycle, and make animal balloons at children’s parties. His ability to entertain and bring joy to others was just one of the many things that made him so special.
Jerry also dedicated his entire working life to serving others as a barber. After earning his certification while still in high school, he spent his career helping people look and feel their best. His work was more than a profession—it was another way he connected with people, built friendships, and made a positive difference in the lives of those around him.
Jerry’s memory will live on through the family he loved. He is survived by his brother, David Randal Allen, and David’s wife, Karen Allen, and their son, Benjamin Harrison Allen; his brother, Raymond Allen, and his partner, Kim Schaffer Davison, and Raymond’s children, Tara Allen Fee and Mark Louis Allen; and his sister, Alyce Marie Allen, and her daughter, Alexa Marie Allen.
Jerry will be remembered for his kind heart, infectious joy, musical talents, playful spirit, and unwavering love for the people around him. He truly had a gift for making others feel welcome, loved, and happy. His laughter, kindness, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched.
Celebration of Life Arrangements for both Jerry and Diane collectively will take place in the spring of next year.
